UT Southwestern Medical Center is ranked in the top 50 in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual report, which also named
UT Southwestern the #1 hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth region for the second year in a row.

Our program is led by world-renowned experts in cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery. At UT Southwestern, neurosurgeons collaborate with nonsurgical specialists in neurology, neuro-oncology, interventional radiology, pathology, neurocritical care, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. By combining the talents of our surgeons with nonsurgical specialists and researchers, we offer access to the latest innovative treatments in one of the most rapidly advancing fields of medicine.

UT Southwestern’s neurosurgeons are affiliated with three centers dedicated to improving treatment for both inpatients and outpatients:

Neurological surgeons on the faculty at UT Southwestern are highly skilled in diagnosing and treating both common and complex neurosurgical problems. Our surgeons are fellowship-trained in their chosen area of subspecialization. This includes:

  • Cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery – treating aneurysms, a or intracranial stenosis, stroke and other blood vessel abnormalities
  • Complex spine surgery – for degenerative disorders of the; bones and discs of the spine
  • Surgery of the craniocervical junction – for disorders where the bones of the spine meet the base of the skull, and where the spinal cord meets the brain
  • Minimally invasive neurosurgery – using image-guided technology to treat disorders of the brain and spine with specifically designed instrumentation
  • Neuro-oncology – offering comprehensive treatment of malignant tumors of the brain and spinal cord
  • Peripheral nerve surgery – offering relief for carpal tunnel syndrome and other peripheral nerve disorders
  • Radiosurgery – using the Gamma Knife or CyberKnife to treat tumors and other disorders involving the brain and spine with precisely focused beams of radiation
  • Skull base surgery – treating tumors of the skull base, often in conjunction with surgeons in otolaryngology and ophthalmology
  • Surgery for treatment of epilepsy – surgical removal ot an epileptic focus in the brain with the collaboration ol the UT Southwestern team ot epileptologists (specialized neurologists focusing on the treatmenl ol epilepsy)
  • Stereotactic and functional neurosurgery – providing the latest advances for epilepsy, movement disorders, and pain, including brain mapping and deep brain stimulation
  • Trauma surgery – caring for patinets with traumatic injuries of the head ands spine
